Mahjong

Held the fourth Tuesday of each month starting at 10.00am and can finish anytime between 1:00 pm and 2: 00pm. You can come and leave at anytime that is convenient to you.

Mahjong games can be between two, three or four players, dependant on the attendees.

It costs $10.00 to attend, and the money raised goes towards the current CWA medical research project. We also have a lucky door prize draw as well.

Lunch is provided and attendees can bring a plate to share if they wish.

You do not need to know how to play Mahjong, as there are many attendees whom are very experienced. We also have books to assist with game play.

We play Western hands and some Australian/New Zealand hands in our games. We use the Mah Jong Player's Companion (1997, P. Thompson & B. Maloney), as well as hands from The Smooth Guide to Mahjong.

We do not score our games, the day is a great time to catch up with each other as well play many games of Mahjong.

Why does this CWA activity have a charge compared to the other activities we run?

The fee has a long history within our branch and began as part of a Games Day fundraiser, established many years ago when there were limited activities for seniors in Bungendore. Mahjong continues to be one of our dedicated fundraising activities.

The Bungendore Branch has a long lasting interest in supporting medical research as a previous past president Barbara Burton campaigned for CWA State to take up various issues. Continuing donations support the legacy of Barbara as a past member.

When our branch raises funds specifically for medical research, 100% of those funds go directly to the designated CWA Medical Research project.
